Denying to distribute Rice, Khader Cancels License of FPS

Mangaluru: The minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader directed the Deputy Commissioner to pass an order to cancel the license of a fair price shop, for denying to distribute rice for a BPL card holder here on March 25.

The Shaktinagar branch of Vyavasaya Sahakari Sangha Nagori denied providing rice to a woman holding a BPL card under the “Anna Bhagya” scheme. As she had come to know during a programme that Minister U T Khader had stressed of taking action if any fair price shops would deny providing ration to the BPL card holders. She called minister U T Khader and complained against the fair price shop owner who had denied to provide her rice and had asked her to come in the following month for the same.

As soon as U T Khader received the complaint he got into action and called the deputy director of the FCS Jayappa to look into the matter. Jayappa paid a surprise visit to the fair price shop at Shaktinagar and found that the shopkeeper had violated the government order in the distribution of the ration.

The DD submitted the report after visiting the fair price shop to the DC. Taking action against the fair price shop owner, the DC immediately cancelled the license of the fair price shop.

This is a lesson to all the fair price shop owners who play hide and seek with the BPL and APL card holders. The department should pay a surprise visit on Saturday’s to every fair price shop to check the amount of rice being supplied to labour camps for much higher price. There are a number of incidents where rice and wheat have been sold to higher prices. This kind of practice should be stopped. Hats off to Minister Khader for his swift action, DD for the quick investigation and the DC for immediate action in canceling the license. If the administration continues to work in the same manner we can avoid corruption in the society.
