Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Lass having 64 Traffic Violations Caught
Mysuru(NIE): This story is different from the one in the 1985 Hollywood Romantic Comedy Dance movie “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” – but this is about a teenage girl who until now managed to escape from the law enforcement in Mysuru, adding to her credit 64 traffic violations. But yesterday, all her hide and seek with the traffic cops of Mysuru ended when she was caught red-handed along with four of her friends riding on a Honda Activa scooter.
As per sources published in a national English daily, Sunitha (name changed) all this time was having too much fun on the road, zooming past traffic rule, not just once or twice, but a shocking 64 times. The joyride of this repeat traffic rule offender, however, ended on Friday, 3 February when the police caught four girls, including her, riding a Honda Activa near Dasappa Circle, Mysuru. A traffic police noticed four girls riding the vehicle without number plate near Metropole Circle. He passed on the message to the traffic police at Dasappa Circle. A cop intercepted them and sought vehicle documents. The girls tried to convince the cop and escape, but they failed.
To escape the cameras installed at the traffic junctions, the girl had even removed both the number plates and kept them in the under-seat compartment. After verification through ‘BlackBerry’, traffic cops were taken aback to know that 64 traffic violation cases were registered against the number of the vehicle the girl was riding. However, the vehicle number KA 09 HH 3970 belongs to a woman, who is a resident of KR Mohalla. Her minor daughter often used the vehicle.
Caught red-handed, the girl and her friends, all students of Marimallappa College-Mysuru confessed to have broken the traffic rule several times in the past for fun. They also revealed several ways in which they managed to escape from the long arm of the law. The four girls would often go on long drives together on a single bike. They used short routes, moved amidst four-wheelers and escaped signals taking advantage of the traffic tangle.
The minor girl would also receive the notices directly from the post office. To avoid any likely risk, the girl later removed the number plate itself. The long list of offenses registered against her bike includes riding without a helmet, more than two people riding, overspeeding, signal jumping and others. She owes the department a fine of Rs 10,000. Traffic police took them to Devaraja Police station, where they were asked to call their parents, but the girls did not do so even after an hour. Police later seized the vehicle and issued a notice to the college management. Girls were asked to bring their parents to the police station and let off with a warning.
